This is a great deal, folks. The vet charges over $200 and even a low-priced clinic is $70+ to spay an adult dog.   Lone Star State American Pit Bull Terrier Club advocates breeding only to improve the health, temperament and conformation of our breed — and that means the vast majority should not be bred.  There are just too many friendly bulldogs in the shelters right now, especially with the economic downturn.

A message from our President, Tom Lundberg

We had two large CH of CH classes at our Sanctioned show.

We had two large CH of CH classes at our Sanctioned show.

    December 2, 2009

To:  Lone Star State American Pit Bull Terrier Club member

This year has been an exciting year for the club. The legislative session along with our two fun shows have kept us all very busy throughout the year. Together we have faced many challenges and I have to say I am proud of our progress and the efforts of all you that have helped make this year a successful one for the club.

Looking back at the year we can be thankful of our success in defeating some of the worst anti-dog legislation ever proposed in our state. During this battle we have made some new friends and identified our enemies.  Our success would not have been possible without all the efforts from the following groups that collectively fought for our legal right to pursue our hobby with our dogs:

Endangered Breeds Association, Responsible Pet Owners Alliance, Sportsman and Animal Owners Voting Alliance, Texas Rifle Association, National Rifle Association, Texas Outdoor Partners, Texas Dog Hunters Association, Ducks Unlimited, Bayed Solid, Positively Pits, North Texas Bully Breed Club, American Dog Owners Association, Mic Mac Teaching for Dogs, Jeff Shaver, Zandra Anderson, The late John Yates with the American Sporting Dog Alliance, U.S. Sportsman Alliance, American Kennel Club and all of their Texas breed clubs, and most importantly the American Dog Breeders Association.

Along with these organizations there were many individuals who donated their precious time and hard-earned money during a time when our country was going through the worst recession we have seen in many years. We should all be proud of our efforts in defending our rights, knowing we put our best efforts forward to defend our great breed.

We also found support from many of our state legislators and their staff who came to our defense during the legislative session. These representatives came to our aid in a time when many of their fellow representatives supported the other side. I know we are all very grateful to them and appreciate their time and efforts in standing up for the dog owners in their districts. There were so many other important issues these people were given the responsibility to deal with during the session that it was a miracle they found the time to help support us in our time of need. I want to personally thank them for taking the time to listen to our concerns and voting in our favor on many of the dog issues.  These legislators include but are not limited to the following:

    Senator Bob Deuell

    Janiece Crenwelge, legislative aide

    Representative Dan Flynn

    Representative Mark Homer

    Representative Charles “Doc” Anderson

    Rep. Edmund Kuempel

Many of these representatives come from our rural districts where our animals play a very important role in our lives. For those who live in urban areas, I urge you to contact your representatives and voice your concerns regarding negative dog legislation.

I am writing this upon the conclusion of our annual ADBSI sanctioned show. This year marked the beginning of what I hope to be a successful long-standing relationship with a new club in our state, Texas Heat. This club has the potential to become one of our state’s leading clubs. They have many young, enthusiastic members who own and exhibit some of the top American Pit Bull Terriers competing in ADBSI events today. We are thankful for their participation in the breed and will continue to help them develop their club into a thriving strong organization. Their participation in this year’s event helped make it a success and a show to remember.

Looking back over my years with the American Pit Bull Terrier I can honestly say that the quality of the dogs exhibited at this years show is the highest I have ever witnessed.  This includes all health, physical and temperament aspects.  Our state has a rich heritage of producing quality American Pit Bull Terriers and the dogs exhibited at this year’s show left no room for disappointment.  Rest assured our dogs have a bright future here in Texas.

In closing I want to thank all of our members and our judges who supported the club and worked tirelessly to ensure this year’s show was a success. This includes everyone who participated in the conformation, fun, and weight pull events as well as the spectators who just came to see the dogs. I want to give special thanks to all of you who worked all the different aspects of the show from trash detail, pooper scooper, registration, security and show management. Your work provided for a safe and fun environment for all of our guests and their families. You guys are truly awesome!

I look forward to seeing everyone at this years Christmas party,

    Tom Lundberg
